Why choose Avon Maitland? Listen to what our former international students have to say!
Nora – Goderich Collegiate District Institute
Nora lived with her host family in Goderich, Ontario, and got to experience living in a beautiful and quiet lakeside community while being less than a 3 hour drive from Toronto. It was the best of both worlds! Nora is from the big city of Frankfurt, Germany, and wanted to study for a semester in Canada. She had only two conditions: the high school must have a good field hockey team and it must be in a town that experiences beautiful, picturesque winters. GDCI offered her both and she was extremely happy with her choice.
Mattheus – Central Huron Secondary School
Mattheus was a student from Brazil who attended Central Huron Secondary School. His love and passion for the arts, specifically the Trombone, helped him understand the world around him and overcome a lot of the initial fears that come from living in a different country.
Rose – Mitchell District High School
Rose is from Thailand and attended Mitchell District High School where she had a truly amazing experience. She greatly improved her English speaking capabilities, made many new friends, and she excelled in badminton: a sport that was just a casual hobby back home. Rose overcame her fear of travelling to a new country and even went a step further and enrolled in extra curricular activities.
Bia – Stratford Secondary and Elementary School
When it came time to go home early from her Canadian exchange experience, Brazilian high school student Bia Favacho decided to stay here. “I had been studying since the beginning of 2019,” she said from the front porch of her host home in Tavistock last week. “I wasn’t going to go home after just two months,” she added. Bia had invested too much time to give up on the experience.
